Error=005 (Network Connection Error)
So I got this wierd error. Here is a verbatim quote of what I sent to Anet:
Quote:
Update:
Q: Are you connecting through a Router or Hub? If so, what is the name and model number?
A: Router. Belkin Wireless DSL/Cable Gateway Router F5D7230-4.
-----------------
Q: Are you connecting through a Router or Hub? If so, what is the name and model number?
A: I don't know. How do I determine this?
Q: Are you on a Home, Campus, or Business Network?
A: Home network.
Q: Are you using a Firewall application? If so which one?
A: The only firewall I have is the Windows one, but Guild Wars is added to my firewall's exception list.
Q: Do you use any Internet Security Applications (ISA) such as CYBERsitter, "Net-Nanny", ZoneAlarm®, McAfee® or Norton™?
A: No.
Q: Who is your Internet provider?
A: Cox Communications.
Q: What type of connection do you have (cable, DSL, dial-up)?
A: cable.
Q: Where are you located?
A: Providence, RI (USA).
Other Comments:
I should note that I have not had this problem before. Just the day before, I was playing Guild Wars just fine, and then today it simply wouldn't connect. There had not been any patch updates since then, nor have I touched Guild Wars since then (until I tried unsuccessfully to connect today). The only thing that happened since then was the Network Maintenance on Sunday, 05/28/2006 0:00-4:00 PDT. Could it be possible that it caused this? I don't think it would be a router problem because if it was, shouldn't I have had this problem a lot earlier, and much more often? (I've NEVER had this problem before).
Also, I get this error on all 6 of my characters. One is in Tyria, 4 are in Cantha, and 1 is a pvp-only in Random Arenas ... none of them can connect (they ALL get this error). I have two accounts ... I tried logging in my second account. It logged in just fine, and I got my character to a Mission. I hit "enter mission" ... and I get this error again!
This leads me to believe this might be client-side, since I get the same error on both accounts, but I am at a loss to explain it. As far as I am aware I'm not on any router or hub, but then again I can't be sure, and I don't know how to check that.
Please respond as soon as possible ... thanks.

[Edit: no longer relevent]
Obviously, I'm missing a very big important piece of information, the Router/Hub info (which I don't know about! How do I determine whether I'm on a router or a hub?).
[/Edit]
As for system stats:
Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.20GHz
3.19 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
|
is what it says on the System Properties page. As of right now it still can't connect ... for ANY of my characters. This is seriously beginning to annoy me. Does anybody else have this problem?

It's not you. Same thing is happening to me right now. Probably server issues. Be patient until it gets fixed.

I've got the same problem as the OP(for about 2 hours now). Im guessing its a location issue. Logged onto the help page, did everything suggested still no luck.
I too use Cox Communications for my internet connection, and im located in Warwick, RI.
Seems like Cox has dropped the ball...

Another Cox user in Rhode Island who is getting the same error message. Figures its just my luck to have this happen on a holiday when I would actually be able to play at this time of day. Oh well....

Central Virginia here...Verizon DSL
Some of my toons can log in and not zone- some can't log in at all.
Reading around, I have to agree with the notion that it is server side.
And on a day that most of us here in the US don't have to work.
Murphy's Law, eh?
Now I wish I'd waited to mow the lawn til today.

Great. Just wonderful. And because this is a holiday, there's approximately a 0% chance this will ever get fixed. Tomorrow the Anet devs are gonna wake up to a storm of angry emails . But yeah, further update:
Now my assassin can log in. She can change districts, but can't use the "select active district" option or she err=005's. She also can't leave the Monastery, or she gets err=005. She can't map out to anywhere else, or she err=005. So basically all I can do is play a lvl 12 assassin in the Shing Jea Monastery.

Aye. They responded to me as well, saying they were, "working on the problem and would get back to me soon". I'm guessing in their dictionary "soon" means "within this year" because that was about 2 hours ago. Then again, if this is a widespread problem it's likely that the Tech assistance people are swamped with such messages. But if they ARE, you'd think they would be working on a solution by now ...

Does this have anything to do with the Server Maintenance yesterday?

Appears to be servers in Texas with the problem. I did a trace route and DNS lookup to confirm. I just hope that with it being a National holiday this will be corrected soon.

Yeah, I figured it would have to be a server problem, and I don't think it was a result of the Server Maintainance, because it played fine yesterday. Only started today. The only other thing going on today would be the ladder unlock (I think it's today, but I could be wrong). As for them correcting this soon ... that's unlikely, for the exact reason that it is a national holiday ... therefore all the server people in Anet are probably at home instead of at work. Therefore, we're not likely to see a solution until tomorrow.
